Government must act to avoid energy “crisis”: Centre for Policy Studies

Britain is on the verge of an energy “crisis” with demand set to outstrip dispatchable supply for the first time in early 2016, according to the Centre for Policy Studies (CPS). Published on Wednesday 17 November, the organisation’s Great Green Hangover report said the average dispatchable capacity remaining by the end of March 2016 would be 52,360MW, with National Grid’s demand forecast at 54,200MW. The report said the UK should abandon its carbon price support before it caused the premature closure of more baseload plant, and that the government should legislate to deliver supply security and affordability.
