Government urged to rethink green cuts

A coalition of businesses, trade groups and community organisations has said the government should reconsider its intended cuts to support for the renewables sector. In a letter––signed by the likes of Panasonic, Energy UK and Community Energy England––the groups accepted that subsidies for renewables could not continue “indefinitely”, but that it was “absolutely essential” that changes to government policy were taken after consultation with stakeholders in order to retain investor confidence. It said: “The impressive momentum achieved by diverse communities to date must be accelerated, not curtailed, particularly as we head towards the crucial climate talks in Paris.”
