Green buildings expected to double

The number of green buildings globally is expected to double by 2018, according to the World Green Building Council (WGBC). A report published by the group on Tuesday 16 February said the percentage of green buildings would increase from around 18% currently to 37% in two years’ time. This would be largely being driven by countries with developing green markets, such as Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and China. The council’s survey found that green buildings were valued 7% higher than traditional buildings on average. Terri Wills, CEO of WGBC, said: “This study offers further evidence on the strong business case for green building––the growth of which is now truly a global phenomenon.”
