IEA highlights energy efficiency gains in 2015
Investment in the global energy efficiency sector was two thirds higher than that in conventional power generation last year, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). In its Energy Efficiency Market Report 2016, issued on Monday 10 October, the organisation said that $221bn was invested in energy efficiency last year––up 6% from 2014, and accounting for 14% of the $1.6tn spent globally on energy supply. The report said that global energy intensity improved by 1.8% in 2015, more than three times the average rate of improvement between 2003-13. IEA executive director Fatih Birol said the improvements were a sign that governments were implementing supportive energy efficiency policies.
