Internal carbon pricing “gaining popularity”

More than 1,200 companies have adopted or are planning to adopt an internal carbon price, according to a new report. Published on Monday 19 September by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the study showed that the practice––where firms apply a monetary value to their emissions outside of a regulatory regime––was up 23% year-on-year, with many companies saying that it had helped drive investment in energy efficiency and other low-carbon initiatives. CDP chief executive Paul Simpson said: “Incorporating climate change as a line item delivers improvements in managing the environmental risks associated with climate change […] Our research shows that carbon pricing is gaining popularity across multiple markets.”
