Manufacturers urge cut back of green legislation

Research by industry association EEF has found that seven in 10 (71%) manufacturers think cutting back on “green” legislation is important to their business, but that just a quarter (25%) think the government’s efforts so far have had the right focus. Released on Thursday 27 August, the report recommends that DECC, Defra and other relevant bodies co-ordinate to consolidate existing legislation, as well increasing the focus given to European legislation.  Less than one in ten respondents said that red tape cuts to date had saved them time (7%) or money (9%). Terry Scuoler, CEO of EEF, said: “Our report shows that manufacturers remain committed to addressing environmental and climate concerns, but are still having to wade through unnecessary levels of complexity and red tape in order to do so.”
