MPs call for transparency on energy negotiations with EU

The government will need to keep Parliament fully informed of its negotiations with the EU regarding the new “clean energy package”, a committee of MPs has said. In a report issued on Tuesday 31 January, the European scrutiny select committee said that, given the interconnection between the UK and the EU, it would be vital to understand the aspects of the legislation that would have an impact following Brexit.  It said that negotiations on the proposals related to the energy performance of buildings and energy efficiency were likely to progress swiftly, and that it was conceivable that the UK would be required to implement them before it left the EU.
