National Grid opts against procuring DSBR for coming winter

National Grid announced on Monday 22 August that it would not be procuring Demand Side Balancing Reserve (DBSR) for winter 2016-17. In an open letter, the company said that DBSR had been designed for consumers that did not already reduce or shift demand, or run embedded generation during peak times, but it was clear that changes to the service via a consultation in September 2015 to encourage participation over the peak had not been successful. National Grid said that it now intended to work with DSBR providers, who are capable of offering reserve across the peak, to assess if any alternative delivery routes could be developed for the upcoming winter.
