Over half of Britain’s electricity low-carbon, report says

More than half (50.2%) of Britain’s electricity was produced by low-carbon sources between July-September, according to new analysis. The first in a series of quarterly research reports, compiled by Imperial College London in collaboration with Drax, said that Britain now had 26GW of wind and solar installed, and that carbon emissions from electricity consumption had reached a record low––falling by a third over a 12-month period and 56% over four years. Drax CEO Andy Koss said: “There is more to do to make Britain truly low carbon. Additional reliable, affordable, clean energy is needed on the system, along with a focus on getting the balance right.”
