Regulator highlights role of innovation in transforming the sector
Ofgem has said that it considers innovation to be part of its business-as-usual activities in its response to the government’s Productivity Plan. Published on Thursday 7 December, Ofgem: Innovation and Regulation examined the roles of new technologies and business models in driving innovation in the energy sector. The regulator highlighted how technology is transforming the industry into one that is low-carbon, smarter and decentralised and it therefore runs a range of projects investigating system flexibility, network management and new approaches to retail regulation. Ofgem said it was embracing technology to aid in its administration of social and environmental schemes, and in the implementation of faster, more reliable switching arrangements.
