Renewables integration would benefit from regional approach, says industry group

The European Commission’s plans to revise the Renewable Energy Directive should focus on delivering greater coordination of policies across the EU, according to Eurelectric. In a report issued on Thursday 27 October, the trade association said that the commission’s review should be based on recognition of the need for further alignment of the key characteristics of renewables support schemes, and that policy-makers should aim to establish guidance for agreements between member states that can facilitate regional subsidy auctions. The review would, the report said, also need to address grid regulation and infrastructure barriers, including acknowledgements of the costs faced by DNOs in connecting renewables.
