Renewables to lead world power market growth, says IEA
Renewable energy will represent the largest single source of electricity growth over the next five years, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). The organisation published its Medium-Term Renewable Energy Market Report on Friday 2 October. It suggested that renewable electricity additions over the next five years would top 700GW, accounting for almost two-thirds of net additions to global power capacity. The report saw the share of renewable energy in global power generation rising to over 26% by 2020, from 22% in 2013; by the end of the decade it expected that the amount of global generation coming from renewables would be higher than today’s combined demand in China, India and Brazil.
