Report finds wide variation in renewables progress across England
A study by experts at Regen SW has revealed that the uptake of renewable energy varies “hugely” across the regions of England. The report, issued on Thursday 28 July, found that the percentage of power coming from renewables varied from 41% in Yorkshire and Humber to 3% in London. The South West had the highest capacity of renewables, at just over 3.5GW. But the report warned that, as a whole, England was “a long way off” its targets, with just 5% of overall energy consumption coming from renewables. Moreover, it said that recent government policy changes had led to slower progress in 2016 and the outlook for the year ahead was “poor”.
