Scotland sees 17% increase in locally-owned renewables

A new report has estimated that around 595MW of community and locally-owned renewables are now operational in Scotland––a 17% increase year-on-year. Published by the Energy Saving Trust on Thursday 29 December, the study said that this overall figure comprised 354MW of electrical capacity, 232MW of heat, 7MW of combined heat and power, and 2MW of “unspecified technologies or energy categories”. The Scottish government had committed to delivering 500MW of community and locally-owned renewables by 2020, but having already met the target has now said that it will aim to deliver 1GW over the same timeframe.
