SNP calls on government to abandon nuclear “boondoggle”

The UK government’s plans to support a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C are too costly and should be abandoned, according to the Scottish National Party (SNP). The party responded on Monday 10 August to analysis by investment bank Jefferies that suggested the new plant would cost more than Crossrail, the London Olympics, and Heathrow Terminal 2 combined. MSP Mike Mackenzie said: “This new analysis is further proof that the Hinkley Point project is nothing more than a taxpayer subsidised nuclear boondoggle. Scotland’s renewables industry will pay a heavy price for this Tory government’s ideological obsession with new nuclear.”
