SNP pledges more ambitious emissions cuts

The Scottish National Party (SNP) has said that it would increase Scotland’s emissions reduction target for 2020 if returned to government next month. In a statement on Monday 18 April, environment minister and SNP candidate Aileen McLeod said the latest evidence showed that Scotland was on track to exceed its 42% target, having already reached 38.4% back in 2013––the last year for which statistics are available. She said: “We hope other parties will back this move and work constructively to ensure Scotland continues to lead on this great global challenge. And we hope other countries will note Scotland’s increased ambition in this area and raise their own efforts to reduce their emissions.”
