SNP presses for new energy strategy
SNP energy spokesperson Callum McCaig has said today’s Budget should aim to lay the foundations for a “diverse and thriving” energy sector. In a letter to chancellor Philip Hammond ahead of today’s Budget, McCaig said that government policy decisions over the past 18 months had significantly undermined Scotland’s renewables sector, and that further support was also needed for the oil and gas industry. He argued that government had also, “against advice and evidence, ploughed ahead with a costly and ineffective nuclear obsession”. The letter added that it was “imperative” to provide the energy sector with the support it needed and to outline a future energy strategy.
