Sturgeon attacks renewables subsidy changes

Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon has said she was left “astonished” by the UK government’s cuts to renewables subsidy schemes. In a keynote speech to the Scottish Green Energy Awards on Thursday 3 December, Sturgeon said that the frustration of those in the sector had been compounded by the government “tying itself to a very expensive 35-year contract for nuclear generation––when it could be supporting new renewable technology whose costs will continue to come down over time”. She added: “It’s deeply disappointing that when countries should be looking at greener, cleaner alternatives, the UK government continues to rely on gas and nuclear.”
