Survey finds large non-domestic untapped DSR potential
Large industrial and commercial companies may have the capacity to increase demand by 1.9GW and reduce it by 3GW across GB, according to an Ofgem survey into demand-side response (DSR) potential. The regulator published the results on Tuesday 18 October, finding that respondents currently provided around 350MW of demand reduction, and reported having another 400MW of potential capacity that was viable and technically possible. However, perceived risk to primary business, difficulty in understanding the value of DSR, and its requirements not fitting the business are all considered to be real barriers to realising this potential. Ofgem said it would conduct further analysis of the survey alongside the call for evidence it will soon be launching on flexibility.
