Thousands of firms fail to comply with ESOS as deadline passes
Around 3,000 firms eligible for the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme have missed the compliance deadline and could now face enforcement action. Sustainability website Edie reported that, as of 15 April, 6,239 organisations had confirmed their compliance with ESOS––only 291 higher than the number that was compliant by the original 29 January deadline. The Environment Agency said that it had, in addition, received around 400 notifications of “intent to comply”. A spokesperson for the agency told the site: “All cases will be reviewed, with enforcement notices used where necessary and civil penalties served in the most serious cases.
