Treasury consults on NIC governance
The Treasury has opened a consultation on the governance, structure and operation of the new National Infrastructure Commission (NIC). The aim of the NIC is to identify and propose solutions to the key infrastructure needs of the UK over the next 10-30 years. The proposed approach to the NIC is to create a non-departmental public body (NDPB) to provide “independent expert advice to the government”. Once established the commission will produce long-term needs assessments and detailed reports that address specific infrastructure questions; its primary focus will be the production of a National Infrastructure Assessment (NIA) to set the long-term context for decisions that will affect the UK’s infrastructure. The consultation will run until 17 March.
