UK likely to miss 2020 renewables target: National Grid
New analysis by National Grid has suggested that the UK is likely to miss its overall EU 2020 target for renewable energy. On Tuesday 5 July the company published its annual Future Energy Scenarios, which showed that, while the electricity generation sector was on the “required trajectory”, major progress would be needed in the heat and transport sectors. Even the Gone Green scenario showed the UK only meeting its overall target in 2022, while in No Progression it would be reached in 2029. Most work would be required in the heating sector; National Grid said that renewable heat would, to meet the 2020 target, need to increase by around 60TWh from 2016 levels.
