UK loses top rating on meeting energy trilemma
The World Energy Council (WEC) confirmed on Wednesday 11 November that it had downgraded the UK in its annual ranking of national efforts to tackle the energy trilemma. In its 2015 Energy Trilemma Index, the organisation moved the UK from an “AAA” to an “AAB” status, leaving only two countries––Switzerland and Sweden––with the top ranking. The report said that the UK continued to balance the energy trilemma “very well”, and that a more diversified generation portfolio and lower import dependence had increased its energy security ranking. However, its performance on energy equity had suffered as electricity had become comparatively more expensive.
