Welsh government to support local authorities’ green schemes

The Welsh government has approved over £7mn of investment funding as part of an initiative to help local authorities boost their environmental credentials. Monmouthshire Council is to receive £4.5mn through the Invest to Save Green Growth Fund, which will allow it to run its own solar park. Flintshire Council is to receive £3.13mn for a project attempting to upgrade 11,000 street lights to LED equivalents, which is expected to save the local authority £360,000 annually. Welsh Environment and Rural Affairs Secretary Lesley Griffiths said: “These projects have huge potential and all public bodies should be developing green growth projects like this to deliver decarbonisation in Wales.”
