Don’t understand your energy bill? We’re here to help

Customers sometimes tell us they struggle to understand their energy bills – and we know this can lead to feeling costs are getting out of control. As we mentioned before, our aim is to make energy simple for you – and we’re always looking at new ways to make our bills as understandable as possible. Here are a few pointers to help you master your electricity bill.

The first thing to understand is what your meter number (MPAN) is and how it’s used. MPAN stands for Meter Point Administration Number – a phrase that needs more explanation. If any terms cause confusion, please check out our industry jargon buster.

The number of elements included in the final cost of a bill can also cause confusion for customers. Third Party Costs (or TPCs) are non-energy costs that currently make up over half the total of your energy bill – with the cost of your electricity only accounting for less than 40%.
