At its meeting on 23 June, the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (GEMA) discussed embedded benefits, particularly triad avoidance. Ofgem released minutes on Wednesday 27 July, showing that GEMA had noted that, while the value of these benefits was considerable, the amounts saved by suppliers were still ultimately borne by consumers as the total costs of the transmission network remain unchanged.
It recognised that the scale of embedded benefits available varied according to the characteristics of different embedded generators, but the value of triad avoidance was increasing rapidly. GEMA also examined proposals for a short-term extension to the System Operator incentives scheme.
