Earlier this month, Haven named the children’s ward at Ipswich Hospital as its charity of the year. To kick-off the relationship we held an internal competition for World Book Day; the day included staff dressing up as their favourite book characters and decorating their office space. The winning team was awarded the prize of a £50 Waterstones voucher which they used to purchase books and other gifts for the children at the ward.
Last week 12 Haven employees took the opportunity to visit Ipswich Hospital Children’s Ward and deliver the gifts personally. These included books, craft items, stationary and toys, all purchased with funds raised by Haven staff through World Book Day.
The group enjoyed a tour around the children’s ward and its play areas followed by getting the chance to meet some of the children, all led by Charity Manager, Kate Ashton.
Among the group were members of the team who donated their prize winnings, these members included Gemma Silburn, Tracy Squirell, Samantha Mackin, Joanna Meers, Gemma Moore, Colette French, Chairmain Brown and Caroline Milner.
Jonathan Kini, Chief Executive Officer at Haven Power, who also attended, said: “For the next 12 months we’ll be raising money for the children’s ward at Ipswich Hospital, which is our chosen charity for the year. It was great to visit the ward last week and see first-hand how the money we raise will directly help those admitted to hospital. The staff at Haven are extremely passionate about raising money for such a worthwhile cause and we look forward to contributing as best we can over the next few months.”
