Is your business ready for GDPR?

The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force on 25 May 2018. This checklist from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) can help you make sure your business is ready for the change.

GDPR day (25 May 2018) is almost upon us, so there’s not much time left to get your business ready.

To check whether GDPR affects your business, complete this online self-assessment test, created by the Information Commissioner’s Office.

The ICO’s even drawn up a handy checklist for businesses that are affected by GDPR. If yours is one of them, the ICO recommends that, by 25 May, you need to:

  1. Know the law is changing.
  2. Make sure you have a record of the personal data you hold.
  3. Identify why you have personal data and how you use it.
  4. Have a plan in case people ask about their rights regarding the personal information you hold about them.
  5. Ask yourself: before we collect their data, do we clearly tell people why we need it and how we’ll use it?
  6. Check your security. This can include locking filing cabinets and password-protecting any of your devices and cloud storage that hold the personal data of your staff or customers.
  7. Develop a process to make sure you know what to do if you breach data protection rules.
  8. Don’t panic: the ICO is here to help you. For example, you can find the answers to some frequently asked questions from different business sectors on the ICO website.

We’ve been reviewing how we handle your data as part of our own preparations for GDPR. If you’re a Haven Power customer, or a consultant working with us, you can update your communications preferences here:
