For 2018, Haven Power employees have chosen Eden-Rose Coppice Trust as their ‘Charity of the Year’ for the second year running. As well as fundraising throughout the year, we’ll be organising a program of volunteer days again.
Here are the thoughts of David Daniels, our Credit Management Advisor, who’s volunteered at Brickmakers’ Wood since our program began in 2016:
I’ve been twice to Brickmakers’ Wood and it’s been inspiring to get to know the people in the charity and the passion they have for their work. Volunteering has also given me the opportunity to find out more about some of my colleagues.
How much the charity appreciates the volunteers from Haven Power, and how the outdoor world can help those who are going through challenges in their life. (I wouldn’t call myself someone who’s normally “at one” with nature!)
Definitely! I believe that people will find volunteering to help others in our local community a very rewarding and humbling experience. Also, they’ll get a sense of satisfaction seeing the results of their efforts!
Being able to help support a local charity was a key reason for me choosing to volunteer.
It’s been inspiring to see how the charity has overcome many obstacles during the time we’ve supported them, both practically and financially. It feels like we’ve forged a really strong partnership with the charity. The fact that we’ve, once again, chosen them as our charity of the year is a testament to that.
I’d challenge anyone to not feel the need to contribute in some way to this charity after reading the story of the founder, Rob Brooks – http://www.withnature.org/branching-out/
